FAQ
How does live wedding painting work?
On the day of your wedding, I set up at the venue about two hours before the ceremony to paint in the background. I continue painting throughout the ceremony and reception as well. When the moment you want painted occurs, I use my phone to take a video and reference from it so you can go about enjoying your day without needing to pose! This also helps ensure the moment is candid and makes the painting feel more personal. If there were additional people at the ceremony you want painted in detail (which would be discussed during your consultation), I'll also take reference images of them so I can accurately capture their likeness. All of my equipment will be kept on my easel or in a black bag underneath it to avoid being an eyesore.
What sort of materials do you use?
I use a high quality cotton-stretched canvas, along with Windsor & Newton and Golden acrylics' professional grade paints, so that the painting is heirloom quality and preserved for years to come. I also seal each of my pieces with a varnish to ensure durability. All materials used are non toxic, scent free, and water based so that they can be cleaned up easily should any accidents occur.
Where are you located/will you travel?
I'm based in Gaithersburg MD May through August, and in Raleigh, NC September through April (See my about page if you're curious). I'm willing to travel up to two hours driving, or fly to anywhere in the midwest or east coast. Any weddings involving flights will require the couple to cover additional travel fees.
What if something happens and you can't finish the painting live?
If something unpredictable happens that prevents me from completing your painting during the wedding, I will take it back to my studio, put in some extra care and finishing touches, and mail it to you in 1-3 weeks' time.
What is a consultation?
A consultation is a recorded video call where we discuss all the details of what will be in your painting. This includes but is not limited to: the moment being depicted, whether you want others in the painting and what level of detail they should be, if you have any pets or missing relatives that you'd like me to add, symbolic details, or any parts of the wedding decorations you want to ensure get included like the cake or a champagne tower. It's truly a brainstorming session where you can tell me what you're looking for, and I create a rough mock up to ensure your piece is everything you dreamed.
